Motorcycle Repair: 2001 Suzuki Katana 750 Engine Problem, dirty carbs

Question
Hi, I had recently got a 2001 Suzuki Katana 750 and im having troubles with it. Basically its real hard to start but when i do get it started, after about 5 times trying to start it, i can only have it idle with the choke fully on. If i try and slowly close the choke it will die, if i try and give it throdle it will die. Im guessing it has something to do with the carb? so ive tore it apart and now i have the carb out, should i just try and clean it? when i took the jets out there is alot of that gel like substance on the jets, im guessing old gas or whatever, could that be obstructing the jets?  ive seen other threads on here about cleaning carbs but is there anything else i should do. this is my first bike so im new with this and im just looking for some help. thanks, jeff

Answer
Hey Jeff.Cleaning a set of carbs is actually very tricky. There are many passage ways in carb that can clog. The jets are just the begining. The way your bike was running carbs are the problem.I would recommend taking them to a motorcycle repair shop.If you are going to do it yourself then use a piece of small wire to clean jets and a can of carb cleaner with the spray straw attached and spray through every hole.I use an ultrasonic machine and I can still have a hard time clearing all passageways.
