Motorcycle Repair: Front brake pads on a 77 CB750K, caliper piston, ring groove

Question
Bill, I am restoring a 1977 CB750K and am coming down to the end but cannot figure out how to remove the pad from the large caliper/piston side of the front brakes. This is my first such project and could use any help to get the bugger apart. Thanks so much!

Answer
Todd, if the pad is rusted/gummed up in the caliper, then just use the master cylinder to push the piston outwards, which will push the pad out ahead of it. Once it is just above the flush surface of the caliper body, you can grab it with fingers/pliers and pull it straight out.

If the caliper has been dragging on the front disc, then you will need to push the piston all the way out, remove the seal ring, clean the seal ring groove, install new seal ring, clean and install the piston, pushing it all the way in with the bleeder nut open.
