Motorcycle Repair: Carb Stumble, Honda trx 350 foreman 4x4, honda trx 350, air leaks

Question
Wayne, I have a stumble in my Mukuni carb on this quad, it stumbels just off acceleration, it has top speed fine and cruising speed fine.  It sounds like a fluttering sound in the front of carb, it acts just like a old accelerater pump!.  What do i do?, Thanks Ron

Answer
Ronald,

-a few things to consider, have you tried
draining the carbs in case of water in the fuel?

-check around the carb for any vacuum hose
or air leaks that may lean out the fuel mixture.

-you may have either a rich or lean fuel
condition off idle most likely caused
by either needle and needle jet wear or
by wear or misadjustment of the carb
linkage under the side cover on the carb.

-If the linkage lifts the slide and needle
before the carbs butterfly is starting to open
it may allow too much fuel or if the
linkage is late pulling the slide and needle up
it may cause lean fuel hesitation.

-you may have wear on the brass needle jet
and needle, these have to be replaced if worn.

-it may be as simple as needing a good
cleaning of the carb and mainly the idle jet.
