Motorcycle Repair: carburetors, honda cb900f, vent holes

Question
You have excellent ratings! 1982 CB 900F everything checks out(read all your answers and comments) but I don't have fuel delivery (Straight line to tank) RUns on starting fluid. Cleaned float bowls and jets(been sitting, no varnish)Good compression and spark. Any ideas?

Answer
Vince, so you bypassed the fuel control system?

That's not a bad thing, but hopefully you plugged off the vacuum fitting at the carb rack. Check intake manifolds for cracks and air leaks. They get hard and brittle at this age.

Petcock/screen inside the fuel tank clean/clear? Gas cap vent holes open?

Choke plates all closing properly? Choke cable pulling them closed? If the cable isn't anchored or adjusted properly, the choke plates won't close all the way.

Accelerator pump working? Slow jets all cleared out? The primary/secondary main jets can be installed reversed, causing flooding and fouling of the plugs. Did you clean the float valves. Old gas can back up deposits behind the float valve seats. When you think the carbs are full of fuel, open a float bowl drain screw to see what/how much drains out.

Fresh spark plugs? Spark plug caps all about 5k ohms?
