Motorcycle Repair: SL350 CAM Cover - Valve Timing, camshaft lobes, gasket sealers

Question
Thanks for your help in getting my CAM cover back on. It still leaks so I need to do it again.  I heard that you should not use gasket sealers..just the gasket..and even coat it lightly with grease. Do you agree?
My main question is..I am going to adjust the tappet clearance. I follow the instrctions..LT..then feeler gauge etc.  The books all say "The eccentric indicator cutout "A" of the pin must be rotated so that it is outside of the screwdriver slot "B".  Looks like a notch in the pin perpendicular the screw slot in the photo.  I don't see anything like that on mine. How can you have a slot in the pin yet rotate it independently of the pin.

Ken, do not use grease on a gasket for a Honda motorcycle. Grease will break down the gasket fibers and just make it easier to scoot around away from where it needs to be. Just use fresh OEM gaskets on dry, clean and flat surfaces.

I am attaching a drawing photo of the marks on the end of the rocker arm shafts. It is just a small mark stamped perpendicular to the screwdriver slot. The mark is what indicates the proper rotational positioning of the rocker arm eccentric. Basically, when viewed from the side you should see -\  and /- kinds of orientation. Normally, when the camshaft lobes and rocker arms and shafts are not worn, the they marks are going to be pointed at roughly 4 and 8 o'clock, viewed from each side.
