Motorcycle Repair: How to find year of CBX?, 7 digits, vin lookup

I was given, what I was told, a CBX Supersport from my Step Father(who is now divorced from my mother and I dont want to engage him about this now) and I wanted to fix it up, register it and ride it, but I looked at the Registration (which is Canadian and I am in NY) and the year says 1977.  I thought CBX's were from 1978-83?  I tried to do a VIN lookup/decode, but the VIN on the registration is only 7 Digits not 17?   It is '2107600'.  There is also a RIN# B2813-69156-35105.  How can I tell what year this is from and is it really a CBX Supersport or some other model.  It looks like one from pictures on the web.  I appreciate your help with this!

Hi Brian,

Well the earliest CBX's are from 1978, but there may have been some earlier ones which we are always interested in.  If you can send me a picture and check the frame, on the headstock there should be a number starting with CB1, or if that is the number that matches your original question it may be a UK model.  Let me know,  Jan
