Motorcycle Repair: 1983 CB1100RD vibration, gas tank, model forum

There is a high frequency vibration at about 4000rpm which appears to be emanating from the fuel tank and which is amplified when the tank is empty. Are there baffle plates in the tank that may be causing the noise and if so how can I stop the noise. I have re-routed cables, taped cables and even tried some insulation under the tank but to no avail!

Yes there are baffles inside the gas tank, and yes these do go loose occasionally.  I know someone who sold a gas tank because they couldn't stand the noise.  Perhaps you bought this one?

No idea how to fix, perhaps contact the CB1100R model forum to discuss the problem, maybe someone on there has tackled the problem.  I do not know how Honda fixed the plates in in the first place, but access is not good even with the large filler cap hole.
