Motorcycle Repair: carburetor / air box /rubber boot reinstall, rubber connectors, air boxes

Question
I took the carburetors out of a 1982 suzuki gs650gl out, cleaned everything and am trying to get it back in.  I have the rubber connectors that go between the carburetors and engine connected to the engine.  I am trying to hook the carburetors to the rubber connectors that go to the airbox, and slide that whole assembly into the space between the engine and frame.  It doesn't seem to fit. I tried to hook the carburetors to the engine and front boot, but couldn't' get the "airbox boot" to go in.  What would be the proper sequence to use to get this stuff in?  Is there some free online manual that explains this like Mitchell on demand?

Honda has similar problems with a number of their four cylinder machines, which are compounded by the carb connector boots hardening up and causing installation issues. Replacing the boots with new ones makes the job a lot easier. It would seem that the air boxes are often installed before the engines are placed into the frames at the factory.
