Motorcycle Repair: Starter problems, torque starter, starter wire

Question
QUESTION: I have an 82 lowrider I put a high torque starter on it and it started great the first time then next time I can only hear the relay clicking I was not getting voltage to the starter so I replaced the solenoid and same thing im getting full from the battery to the solenoid but only around 9 volts on the relay when I hit the starter button and nothing to the starter but if I disconnect the wire from the starter and hit the starter button I get around 9 volts through the cable? Do you have any suggestions? I also tried a different relay and same thing?

ANSWER: Disconnect the starter wire from the solenoid and hit the starter button. What voltage are you showing at the end of the wire that goes to the starter?

QUESTION: If I disconnect the starter wire from the starter I get around 9 volts out of the wire but if it is connected to the starter I get no voltage from the solenoid to the starter?

Answer
Check your wires. If the starter is not connected and you hit the starter button you should get the same voltage as the battery since there is no load on the battery.
If it all looks good then you might have a bad starter. I would have it tested
