Motorcycle Repair: aftermarket tank replacement with 3 post ignition switch, harley sportster, stock ignition

Question
I have a 1999 harley sportster 883. A few years ago, I swapped over tanks from the original, to one that had a dash panel and 3 post ignition. My stock ignition has three red wires, one with a black strip, one with a grey stripe and one plain. The solid red is obviously my power/battery, the others im unsure of, but assuming black/red is ignition and grey/red is accesory. Since the three post switch has 6 terminals, I have no clue where to hook up which wires. My assumption would be power to the lower farthest left terminal, igntion to the upper farthest right termimal and the accesory to the farthest left terminal, leaving the remaining three conection termials blank...am I close?

Answer
What you have to do is test the switch. they are not all the same. Which the switch in the off position touch one of the posts with the hot wire and check the other posts with a test light. There should be no power. Once you have found that post, then turn the switch to the first click and check to see which posts are hot. then you have attach your wire. Do the same with the second click. You should have 2 posts hot. The one for the ignition should be hot at both clicks and the other is for lights
Good luck and happy riding
