Motorcycle Repair: 1983 honda nighthawk, 1983 honda nighthawk, clutch adjustment

Question
Have a 1983 nighthawk, has been stored for 3 years. After riding it for 2 weeks, the clutch has started to act up. when shifting into gear the bike jumps and shifts hard. When riding the clutch seems to slip. What should I check to trouble shoot this issue?

Answer
The first question is did you change the oil in it before riding it again? If not was it still full of oil when it was taken out of storage? Being these bikes run a wet clutch system after they have sat for a long time the oil that was absorbed into the clutch can slowly seep back out of them. When that happens the clutch will work for a little while then start getting hot and slipping. Check or change your oil first, then check your clutch adjustment and make sure you have about an 1/8 of inch of play in the cable at the clutch lever. If these solutions don't work you may have to put another set of clutches in it. I wish you luck. Let me know if you find anything else. Thanks
