Motorcycle Repair: Neutral indicator, engine wiring harness, honda cbr

Question
I just purchased a Honda CBR 125RW and as it is my first motorcycle, I am still adjusting to the weight and shifting. Unfortunately, I have already fallen and dropped the bike on its side. Now the neutral indicator will not turn on. Is there anyway I can fix this myself or do I have to take it into the dealership.

Answer
Devon, unfortunately I can't find any parts manuals with exploded views of your engine. However, do the easy stuff first...  Check the bulb. If the bulb is okay, test the wires to it. One will be HOT with battery voltage when the key is ON and the other one goes to the neutral switch, which puts ground on the circuit in the neutral position. If your bulb is good and you have power to it, using a test light then the wiring/switch on the ground side is faulty.

Find the wiring coming out of the engine. The neutral light wiring is almost always a part of that engine wiring harness. Remove the outer engine cover, probably over the counter shaft (forward) sprocket and look for a small indicator switch inside. The colors are usually green with a red stripe for neutral wires. Check for damage, a dislodged wire or damage to the harness wiring.
