Motorcycle Repair: No spark/ not firing, suzuki gs550e, ebay

I just Replaced the regulator in my 1985 Suzuki gs550e because it had killed my battery and blew my headlight. The bike was running fine before it went. I. Have hooked the new one up and now it's not seeming tohave spark. It turns the engine over but all you hear is he starter turning. What should I do next I don't have much money to just start replacing parts. Thank you

It sounds like the regulator may have fried the CDI box. This controls the ignition. Check your coils and ignition pickups with an ohm meter and compare the results to a good service manual. If they check out okay then unfortunately it probably took the CDI when it blew the battery and lights. Ebay is a wonderful place to find one for a fair price. Just make sure it has been tested and has a moneyback policy of some kind. Hope this helps.
