Motorcycle Repair: Brakes, honda motorcycle, cb650

Question
Hello, i have a Honda motorcycle that isn't one of the models you are an expert about, so I'm sorry for not following the rules, but my problem isn't really unique to a certain model or make. My fron calipers on my 1981 cb650 tend to stick while riding.  I replaced the hoses and even bought different calipers thinking it was an internal problem, but i think that it was the heat from the brakes making the piston expand and not retract when you let go of the lever.  I figured that because they don't stick if you just sit in the garage and squeeze the lever, it only happens while driving.  I was wondering if you can tell me what is going on so i can fix it and make it safe to drive.  Thanks in advance, Jake

Answer
Hi Jake,  The problem is probably with the calipers.  You will need to take the pistons out, remove the seals and clean the oxidation out from behind the seal.  Make sure everything is clean and check the pistons before reassembly.  Any pitting and you will need to replace the pistons.  Once reassembled, bleed the air out and you should be all set.

Good luck,  Jan
