Motorcycle Repair: Shifter switch, linkage, shaft

I have a 1972 sporty, want to change shifter to left side. I tried the '75/'76 go around linkage,it is hard to shift. Took primary off, no hole for the shifter on left side. Can I get machine shop to drill hole? replace trans? Etc. thank you.

You would have to make sure the door on your trans is the one that has the hole in it for the shifter shaft. You can just cut a hole in the primary. You would have to cut it and then weld some metal to back of it for support. It would be alot of work
