Motorcycle Repair: maybe youll have fun answering this...., triumph thunderbird, wing feathers

Question
I don't know where to turn. Hopefully you can shed some light. I currently
ride a 1995 triumph thunderbird with no complaints. I am considering traded
for a r90/6. The nearest triumph dealer is 2 hours  away, while a BMW dealer
is within a half an hour. I like to do my own work, although I'm still getting
my wing feathers. I've only had the tbird for a year, and even after 11,000
miles have had little to do besides pads and fluids. I'd like a bike that is
intriguing (not intimidating) to work on, but is still solid enough to be the
main work horse in a collection. I'm also concerned with repair costs. Am I
silly to consider trading a 12 year old motorcycle with 21k on the clock for a
potentially 30  year old with perhaps double or triple the mileage?

Answer
Frankie,
I know your plight, I have often been tempted
and have sometimes fell prey to the "other"
motorcycle syndrome.
Cost wise, I think it might be a bad move,
as an old bike may need alot of TLC to keep
it running. You can fix up anything with enough time
and money, that's the catch here.
Have you driven the BMW? I would check it out
and see if it sounds good etc, before you decide.
I am still tending toward the Triumph
if you need to use it daily.
