Motorcycle Repair: 1966 Honda S65, grocery getter, honda s65

Question
Just got this and am going to restore this and use it as a grocery getter.
When I looked at the battery it has a fuse on the negative lead and it then connects to a red wire, the positive from the battery does not have a fuse and it connects to a blue wire. Looks like someone got the wrong battery and reversed polarity on this bike. Will this hurt the bike? What do I need to do to fix other than getting the correct battery?

Second question, I was thinking of putting a newer engine in this while I rebuild the original. the engines I was looking at were 12 volt. is it easy/not advisable to convert to 12V or too much of a pain?

Thanks!

Dan

Answer
Dan, there is a wiring diagram here:

http://oldmanhonda.com/MC/WiringDiagrams/MCwiring.php#class  The fuse is on the blue wire, but that wire goes back to the ignition switch, which is grounded. Odd concept, but it works.

The ignition system is magneto powered, so doesn't care if there is a battery there or not. However, the rest of the system does care about having a fully charged battery and functioning charging system. It is, of course, a 6v system, so changing out to a 12v CDI motor will require some rewiring and changing out the battery, maybe the rectifier and all the light bulbs. The horn is also 6v, but will probably survive some random 12v bursts.
