Motorcycle Repair: 1987 Honda VF700C Magna Carbs overflowing, keyster carb kits, cmsnl

Question
This bike has been sitting for about 2 years. Emptied the fuel tank and ran carb cleaner in the fuel. When trying to start bike fuel begins to come out of overflow and once bike is running A LOT of fuel begins to run out of overflow. Believe this is a carb issue.? If so where could i find a rebuild kit and what is involved with repairing. Any other suggestions would be appreciated as well.
Thanks
Bryan

Answer
Well Bryan, you are in for an adventure. Sitting bikes develop a lot of aging issues, such as your float valves overflowing the bowls due to varnish deposits gumming up the jets and float valves inside the float bowls. Get a good shop manual so you can do the proper steps involved in removal of the carburetor rack for dis-assembly. Depending on what you find when you pull the float bowls, you may be lucky and not have to dismantle the whole rack for a thorough cleaning in a carb dip tank. Do pull the carb tops off to get the diaphragm slides out for cleaning as well.

Search around for KEYSTER carb kits (cheap, but sometimes questionable quality) or look up the packing kits for your model at the Honda dealerships.

http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-vf700c-magna-1987-us_model756/partslist/E++1801.html for illustrations and part numbers that you can research or use to order from your dealer.

If you don't tear the whole carb rack down, it is just a matter of using some spray carb cleaner (eye protection suggested) and installing new parts wherever necessary.

The air suction valve hose system is a nightmare, so take photos, study the book and take your time.
