Question
QUESTION: I have a 2001 XL1200. When I start the bike, it only runs for 10 to 15 seconds and dies.  If I try and start it again, it won't start like as if it flooded out.  I haven't changed anything since I bout the bike two years ago.  All I have done is clean the filter, plugs ( I did check the gap ), and changed the fluids.  I have cleaned the jets and the bowl in case something got into the tank. When I pull the bowl off, it is full of fuel. I drained the old fuel from the tank and put new fuel in.  I have even tried switching the coil out for one off of a bike with no problems.  I know a few people that are really good with Harleys and they are completely stumped!

ANSWER: When it wont restart have you pulled a plug and checked to see if you are getting spark?

QUESTION: Yes I have. It's getting spark.

Answer
Since you have spark then I would suspect a fuel problem. Looking down the throat of the carb and twisting the throttle, do you see a shot of fuel going into the intake? If you do then try this. Turn the bike over with your hand over the carb, for just a sec, did you get fuel in the carb and on your hand? Now try to start it, did it start?
