Question
i have a virago920 1982 and it has been sitting for about 3 years i decided to put it for sale and bought a new battery for it now the battery does not have the wire for the computer dash does that effect the bike from running the gas that was in the tank was bad so i drained it and put new  the problem im having is that the bike wont idle faster when the choke is on and when the choke is off it has a hard time to idle  now i worked at it trying to get it to run using choke so on and found that the bike was smoking out the tail pipe alot i also noticed that a little spray of gas was coming out the bottom of the exhaust and alot of back fire what can i do to try to fix

Answer
Your carburettors will almost certainly need thorough cleaning.  Unlikely that gas is coming out of the exhaust, more likely it is condensate from the pipes.  Let the bike get nice and warm and this should stop.  First you need to get the carbs sorted out though.
