Motorcycle Repair: 1982 Honda CM450E, 1982 honda cm450e, asbestos fiber

Question
Hi Mike- Indulge me for a second, please...

The last ride of last season, I rode home after midnight on a dark night, and discovered a motorist ahead of me had hit a deer. I was laying in my lane, back towards me.

I didn't have much time to turn, but avoided the back of the doe, and ran over its legs. It was her or me...

I'm afraid one of the legs must have flown up and hit my exhaust pipe, as the cycle sounded louder that night, and now, with the new season upon us, it sounds a bit louder than I recall riding it.

Upon inspection, I've found a dent on the front of the right side exhaust pipe, and as you can imagine, the whole pipe manifold is very rusty these days.  There seems to be a crack or small hole, emitting the noise to the front of the bike.  All else is in good shape, though my friend found deer hair under the oil pan, etc.

I'm thinking with the age of this bike, I've had it for two years, 6000 miles, I'd like to keep it for another year before liquidating it and maybe moving up.  I have an offer for the bike now, from the guy who sold it to me.

I doubt I can get an exhaust manifold and exhaust cheaply, so I'm thinking about cheep fixes.  Years ago, CVS sold a muffler wrap plastic patch, which was red in color with some asbestos fiber in it.
The adheasive made it seal to itself, and was supposed to wrap/patch your exhaust pipe under a car... at least for a while until repairs/replacement was untaken.

Does something like this still exhisit?  Should I attempt this on a motorcycle?  What would you recommend?

You'll note this question does not apply specificially to Hondas, but to any cycle with an exhaust leak/hole/problems.  Thank you for trying to answer me.

Answer
i havent seen that wrap for a long time, but if you can find some you can try it. It wont last to long though, since your pipe gets really hot. That is about the olny thing you are going to be able to do, besides replacing it
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
