Motorcycle Repair: 1974 superglide fxe, straight pipes, intermediate jet

Question
i have 74 superglide.it runs awsome,but it has stock exaust and i want straight pipes.i have a s&s super e carb.my question is,if i change the pipes,do i need to rebuild the carb?

Answer
Adding straight pipes will lean the bike out a little. What you would have to do is install the exhaust and warm up the bike. Once its warm, adjust the air/fuel misture acrew and go for a ride and see how it runs. You might end up going bigger on the intermediate jet. to change the jet you dont have to remove the carb or rebuild it
Good luck and happy riding
