Motorcycle Repair: Honda CM125 2003 Import, beam light, low beam

Question
Hi there! I've got a CM125 Exclusive, its an Import model but everything is all the same as it were on the 80's model apart from having extra features such as a tachometer and a front disc brake. I just have a fault with the electrics. When I'm riding along at night with the lights on low beam, the low beam cuts out so I am forced to use the high beam which does work thankfully. But then the high beam light indicator on the pannel starts to fade and disappear through use of the throttle. I try to change back to low beam which sometimes it works, but sometimes doesn't. This problem re-occurs each time whilst riding! I know its an electrical fault, but is it the battery?? Do the bulbs need changing?? Or is there a false connection somewhere?? Many thanks...

Answer
It sounds like the switch (high beam low beam) is bad. This is a common problem. Also check the grounds (battery and headlight)

If the battery is older check it (load test after charging good)
If load test fails replace the battery.

After all this is done I want you to check the charging system
Before you start the bike take a meter and check the voltage of the battery. If things are right it will read over 12 volts. wright this number down. Now start the bike and check it again the voltage gait must be at least 2 volts higher than the first reading if it is your good.
If not you will need to get back to me and we will find out if it is the
stator or volt regulator.

Also check the ground on your high beam light.
