Motorcycle Repair: 1984 xlx sportster 1000cc ironhead, stock carb, xlx

QUESTION: i put a new carb kit in my stock carb.and when i give it throttle with the bike none running i dont see gas coming out on the inside of the carb.what did i do wrong? curt

ANSWER: You running a stock carb? Was the carb plugged up or the bike not running right before the kit?

QUESTION: the bike has been sitting a few years,i believe it is a stock carb,the bike runs then will just simply shut down and not start for quite sometime,...i put new coil,plugs/wires,electronic senser,key ignition,..and the bike still just shuts down after abit

Answer
Even though you installed a new carb kit you might have some dirt in the carb that is plugging up things. I would take the carb apart and soak it over night in carb cleaner. Also, make sure the petcock is not plugged.
