can i replace the oil leaking base casket on my cylinders without replacing the rings and pistons,

Answer
The answer is yes you can, however when you have the engine down that far, why not do a quick check on the piston rings and re-evaluate that decision then.  The base gasket is cheap, but the time and labor (plus new head gasket) make it expensive enough that you don't want to go back in there again soon...
