Motorcycle Repair: spyke starter, fuse panel, selonoid


Question
bike has a plunger starter botton. not making anything happen took off plunger cover. that botton and spring does what. do i need to replace selonoid. or can i replace just spring with new  rod. button and spring/.. it made contact and then nothing at all   than you any imput apreciated      regards Ron

Hi Ron,

If your battery is good and you have power coming to the solenoid
when you push the starter button then the solenoid contacts
may be burnt. The plunger makes contact inside and connects two
copper terminals, one is positive battery power and the other goes to starter motor.

If your button is the manual type then you can probably just
use a repair kit on the solenoid if not then here is more info
for power solenoids:

When you push the starter button the small wire on the solenoid should have
battery power or you might have a faulty relay that provides the power to the solenoid.
Most of this can be checked with a test light or multimeter.
I am not sure where the relay is but might be near the battery or in fuse panel.
