Motorcycle Repair: indicators, honda vt 500, filament bulbs

Question
honda vt 500 shadow 1986

When the ignition is switched on everything lights up including the indicators., when the switch is used to signal left or right the indicator will work but when canceled will stay lit up.

I have taken the whole headlamp apart to get to the wireing. By unpluging two wires that are part of the system i can make it so the indicators do not always stay on. This seems a bit dodgy to me though. Also since having a look at this the back right indicator will not work at all and I dont get the normal double blink to say that the indicator bulb has blown.

ahhh very frsutraiting.

Answer
Rob, the front signals due double-duty as running lights, thus have two filament bulbs installed. The only time the fronts will go out is when the high beams are selected.

Make sure that you have all the correct bulbs in all four signal assemblies and that all of the ground connections are secure.
