Motorcycle Repair: sluggish tachometer, vjmc members, vintage honda

Question
1974 cb550, 25 years in storage.  after cleaning and lubing the cable still sluggish and nonresponsive to actual rpm's

Answer
Gene, the problem is in the speedometer, itself. When the meters sit for years the lubrication dries out for the main bushing and the other parts tend to get sluggish, as well. Sometimes, with riding/operation, they will wake back up again, otherwise take it to a speedo repair shop for some service. Foreign Speedo, in San Diego, has done a lot of vintage Honda meters for me and other VJMC members.
