Motorcycle Repair: tail lights, led tail light, motorcycle applications

Question
I'm thinking of replacing my old tail lights with Leds, but was told by a friend that I would need something called a load balancer.I've talked to a couple of mechanics and all they could say was the manual called for it.My question is why and what does it do.
thanks for your time and consideration.

Answer
Larry, I have a full LED tail light on my 1964 CB77 Super Hawk, which has a barely adequate charging system. I got it from this site: www.bulbsthatlast4ever.com/pdf/Bill_Silver_HM1.pdf
Straight bolt on, no gimmicks to the charging system or load balancing. LEDs use a fraction of the wattage that regular bulbs do, so I can't see why there would be a problem.

Talk to Bruce at the site. He's the LED expert for motorcycle applications...
