BMW Repair: A/C no stop cooling although compressor cluth works fine, compressor clutch, bmw 323

Question
Hello, I wonder if you could help me. I was driving my BMW 323 i 2000 today with A/C on and same was working fine, (I drive plenty today) and at the end of the day when i was driving on the freeway, the air stop cooling, fan works fine and compressor clutch engages, however no cooling air comes out.

Could you please advice. I did have my compressor changed 3 years ago beacause it was dammaged, and this three las years i had no problem whatsoever until a few hours ago.

I do hear a strange sound (sorry for not being more specific on this) but not like last time when compresor sound like it was hiting metal. I also smell like something is burning, not a strong smell actually you have to open the front hood to smell it.

Any ideas, it would be helpfull if you could reply also to my email.

Thanks a lot for your time...

Answer
Cesar I am unclear as to which fan you say works? The A/C blower motor (moves air in cabin) or the Auxilliary A/C pusher fan on the front of the condenser? My question is do you have volume of air on the interior and the temperature is not cool or do you not have any volume of air (blower motor not responding) Usually burning smells and A/C not cooling is a Failure of the Auxilliary A/C fan. Please check it's operation with the Engine running and snowflake button lit up. The fan should turn on after about a minute. If it doesn't operate and smells like burnt wiring replace it. If you don't have any function from the interior blower motor then replace the final stage resistor for the blower. See my post to 'Doug' on 8/26/06. Let me kn ow what you find.
