Motorcycle Repair: cylinder head cover, honda cb900c, cam towers

Question
Hi Jan,
I own a 1982 honda CB900C when I was done riding the other day
I noticed a little oil coming from the top of the cylinder head
cover. When I turned the bolt with the rubber mounting with my
fingers it came right out the same for the one right ahead of it.
The bolts were broke right off. they are 6MM bolts how do I get
the broken part out? Thanks for the help. Bill

Answer
These bolts go into the cam towers.  You can remove the cam towers once you have the valve cover off and make sure the valves next to the cam towers you are removing are not fully open. (reduces stresses) remove the cam towers and take them to a machine shop to have the leftover pieces taken out, or if you are good with a drill and easy-outs, remove them yourself.  Then get new bolts and ensure you use a torque wrench when re-assembling.  They often get overtorqued.

Good luck,  Jan
