Motorcycle Repair: Re: only 2 bowls getting fuel, float bowl, petcock

Question
Hi Jeff and thanks for your time and service!

I set the petcock to run on vacuum,
I removed the (universal) inline filter,
Now I'm getting fuel to the #1 carb and # 4 is the only one
not getting fuel. I thought about removing fuel line at carbs
and blasting with carb cleaner but am not sure if that would
be a good thing to do or not! What do you think?

It won't fire up unless I spray carb cleaner in the air box.
Shouldn't it fire with fuel in 3 bowls?

I'm just trying to get it going without taking the carbs off since
I don't have a hockey stick or anything similar to pry with. I tried
to remove them the other day like you said but didn't get them
off. Also am having to do this outside because my Goldwing is in
the garage so it's kind of chilly working on it and the rubbers
are not as pliable now.
Do you also remove the intake bolts and gaskets when you do a
removal or not? I did that my first time but it was still pretty hard.

I just don't want to put the bike away for winter in this condition!
Any ideas on this starting, carb bowls, spraying cleaner into inlet
would be greatly appreciated!
Steve

Answer
I didn't take the bolts out of the intake to take my carbs off.

You use some compressed air in the main gas line and if there is something blocking the line it might push it out into the float bowl. That might work, but I suspect you are going to have to take the carbs off to have a better look.
