Motorcycle Repair: Transmission repair, honda nighthawk 250, torque wrench

Question
I have a 91' honda nighthawk 250. The transmission is slipping going into second gear. The bike shifts fine from first to third, but slips going into second. How would i be able to fix it and what parts do i need to fix it myself? Thanks!

Answer
Hi Nick,

I don't have any experience with the 91 Nighthawk 250.
I suspect that the problem is a bent shift fork though.
However when doing any major repair, a shop manual is a 'must have'. It will outline how to remove the engine from the bike and take you through step by step, how to take the tranny apart and how to put it back together.
I would purchase all new gaskets and any new seals that the manual recommends. Have a torque wrench handy, so you can torque all the bolts back down to proper specs.
