Motorcycle Repair: Clutch problem on 1973 XLH, clutch lever, clutch assembly

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1973 XLH Sporster. The problem started on a ride when I went to down shift and I lost everything.  If I put it in gear and gave it some throttle it tried to grab but it wouldn't hardly move.  So I took it home and replaced the clutch plates, friction plates, the 2 springs, and the clutch assembly kit.  I followed the manual on all the settings and put it back together. Tried it out and when I put it in gear it still doesn't grab when I try rolling it.  When I start it up and try it, I pull in the clutch, pop it in gear and it pulls while I still have the clutch pulled in and when I release the clutch it hardly even grabs.
Don't know what else to do, was wondering if it could be a bigger problem then just the clutch.

ANSWER: When you pull the clutch do you feel it pulling?

QUESTION: It try's to but it doesn't really move and when you try taking it out of gear it keeps pulling.

Answer
Thy this. Loosen the clutch cable so there is alot of slack in it. then loosen the clutch adjuster so it has play in it. Now take the cable and push it towards the primary. this will move the lever inside towards the rear, where it should be. Now adjust the clutch by turning the adjuster inward until it bottoms out and then back out about 1/8 turn. Now adjust the cable so the clutch lever has about 1/8 inch play in it. Let me know if this works
Good luck and happy riding
