Motorcycle Repair: 87 vulcan 750, exhaust leaks, air leaks

sorry to bother ya with a non honda question but your the only name that comes up. 87 vn750... 3 part question...1)backfiring at idle and decealeration( after reading i assume carbs need cleaned... 2)is re-jetting nessasary since i added drag pipes? and 3) i read one post that said the valve train ( specificlly the chain and tentionor) are only good for about 20,000 miles.. true or false? thanks for your time

Chris, being that it is a Non-Honda question, I can only give educated guesses about the specifics of your machine.

Backfiring at idle may have a different cause than backfiring at deceleration. Usual causes of backfiring at idle are weak mixtures/ overly rich mixtures, fouled spark plugs, air leaks at the intake tract and exhaust leaks between the cylinder head and tip of the pipes.

Rejetting is often necessary when adding loud, un-baffled pipes on a bike.

I have no knowledge of the camchain/tensioner life on a Kawasaki Vulcan..... I'm sure that there are forums out there to address that question, better than I can.
