Motorcycle Repair: cbx1000 starting problem, starter solenoid, model honda

Question
QUESTION: my cbx wont start,, the starter solenoid are clicking but it sounds like the starter motor is getting enough juice ,,even putting a screwdriver directly to solenoid it sounds as if the starter is really struggling to crank the engine any help would be appreciated so much

ANSWER: AT LAST!!!  A CBX question!!!  Thank you.

If by using a screwdriver (and hence bypassing the solenoid) the starter still struggles, it means that either the battery is running out of steam, this can be checked by seeing how low the voltage goes during starting.  If it drops below 10V then your battery needs replacing.  If you do not have a voltmeter, then see if matters improve if you have another jumper battery hooked up when you try it.  If the battery is OK then the brushes on your starter are worn, and these are pretty tricky to replace.  Probably easier to find another starter motor...

Thanks again for a CBX question; been waiting a long time and answered many, many non CBX questions...

Good luck,  Jan

QUESTION: also do you know if any other model honda starter motors fit ,,,ie cb900 or 1000 or gold wing????
many thanks once again for the help with my first question

 kindest regards craig

Answer
Hi Craig,

Unfortunately CBX starters are out there alone; the CB750 starters are lower power, the 900 and 1100 have more power but are still different, they mount differently on the motor.  You can still get CBX starters, in fact through the UK CBX club you can get re-wound starter that have more power.  You DID check the battery though, right?

Good luck,  Jan
