Motorcycle Repair: 1981 wing, rear shocks, bill silver

Question
Hey Bill. I have a 81 wing, great bike for me.  it has recently started to run good till it starts getting warmed up then my suspension light goes on and begins running bad, then turn it off and I have no power to my ignition. wait abit and it all comes back on.  Is there a relay or something else I should be looking for?

Thanks

Answer
Darren, I am not a highly experienced GL wrench, but there are many GL owner groups that may be of further assistance.

I don't have a wiring diagram, so cannot tell you if there is an interplay between the air suspension light and the ignition system.

The air suspension light is to warn you of too low pressure in the rear shocks, I believe. I would check them first to see the amount of air in them and see if there are signs of leakage.

Honda had a problem with the switch bases on many of their bikes from 1975 to the mid-80s, so I would take a close look at the ignition switch harness and the switch contact base, itself, to see if it is working loose. Repair kits should be available to fix the switch, so you don't have to replace the whole key assembly.

I would make sure that your battery is fully charging and capable of passing a load test.

You could have two different problems or one interconnected. If you have a wiring diagram, you can map out the wiring to see if there is anything in common between the two circuits.
