QUESTION: Hi mike, the engine is in a 06 American iron horse that I bought as new in june of 09 the oil has been changed and the engine runs great and is very strong but the tickking is driving me crazy.

Answer
Your ticking is from the hydrolic lifters. There are a couple of things to try to stop it. Once is change to synethic oil which might quiet them. the other thing is adjust the pushrods about 1/2 turn shorter. If both these fail, and it still bothers you, then you are going ot have to replace the lifters. If you do I would recommend Jims lifters. They are quiet
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
