Motorcycle Repair: Running light problem, honda dealer, loose connection

Question
I know you favor Triumphs, but consider this generally, if you would.
My running light has stopped working on the left side. Turn signal still flashes on both sides. Right side running light and all other lights on my CM450E Honda are working.

I've switched the bulbs, but the light failure DOESN'T move with the bulb.

How would you approach tracking down the problem?
The bike rides/runs OK for a 1983 bike, but if I get stopped or a cop sees me, I suspect I'll get a ticket or it'll be an excuse for a stop or for a higher infraction.

I'd rather solve it now, if I can.
Any suggestions on how you'd proceed? The nearest Honda dealer is 52 miles (1 hour) away. I ride 2/3rds of the way there daily on my commute to work.

Thanks.

Take a test lite and see if you are getting power to the light, I suspect that you are not. It sounds to me like you have a bad power feed wire to that light.  We can assume that your ground wire is fine, because your turn signal is working.  Trace your running lite wire back to the harness and see if you have power at the harness, if not , trace further and at some point you should find a loose connection of a wire that is broken either externally or internally....if this fails , drop me another note and we can look farther

Hope I have helped
