Motorcycle Repair: honda 1982 blinker not working, 1982 honda sabre, loose connection

I purchased a 1982 honda sabre 750 bike, its my first
motorcycle and for some reason the blinkers in the back
don't work at all and in the front they don't flash, and I
think someone has screwed with it because the right blinker
turns the left light on steady and the left one turns the
right light on steady, but nothing in the back lights up at
all?  Where should I start?

Answer
First thing to try is to check the bulbs.  Then check if you are getting a good ground connection (usually green wire) and lastly check if you are getting a positive connection (Orange or Blue wire) when you activate the switch.  Once you find out which side of the circuit is not working, start chasing the wires backl to a loose connection or a bad ground...   Good luck,
