Motorcycle Repair: Slip-ons for a 2009 Heritage Softail Classic, harley sound, air intake system

Question
I have a friend that recently purchased his first Harley and admits that he was so happy just to have the bike he didn't really think about changing the pipes to get that "harley" sound as people call it. He has been looking at both Screaming Eagle and Rinehart slip-ons but has gotten too many different opinions from too many different people that also keep telling him he'll have to replace the air-intake system and do a lot of other modifications. Can you tell me what, exactly, needs to be done to add the slip-ons and if you have a preference over the two different kinds? He's leaning towards the SEs as they have the deeper, throatier sound but he doesn't want have to spend a couple grand to get it. Any help and advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Either exhaust is really good. He should put on what he likes. He might want to listen to other peoples bikes and see if he can find a sound he likes.
You dont have to change the air intake, but I would recommend it. It will help the bike breath better.
The downside of makeing changes in the exhaust is that you will lean out the bike more than it is.To lean and the bike runs hotter and you can burn a valve. After changing hte pipes he really needs to remapp the ECM.
Good luck and happy riding
