Motorcycle Repair: z50j, coils, condenser

Question
i have a z50j and am currently rerstoring it, i had a friend over to look at it and we narrowed it down to the magneto as the problem for no spark
we believe that the coils are shorted or are grounding some how
do you know the standered voltage given out
or how to find out exactly

most likely the coil is not the issue. check the points gap- needs to be .016"
check the wiring from the points thru the switch to the coils, etc... verify it... replace the points and condenser...
be basic in your troubleshooting.
chances are there is a screwed up section of wiring and there is your issue....
