Motorcycle Repair: honda vigor 650, honda vigor 650, oil leaks

Question
hi mike. my partners daughter had an oil change on her vigor 600 miles ago, you actually put the oil in part of the frame ,put the right mount in. it has no oil leaks , it doesn't burn oil as no blue smoke . the other day it seized cant under stand where the oil has gone as checked the level it was bone dry .do you think there could be a crack in the frame and the oil has gone round part of the frame? thanks for your time . regards Andy

Answer
Andy, I had to Google what a Vigor 650 was... we never got that model here in Canada, but I would agree with your suspicion that the oil has disappeared into other parts of the frame. There should be a drain plug at or near the bottom of the motor, even if it is a dry sump design, so you should first check to see if it has "wet sumped" and deposited all the oil into the crankcase instead of returning it to the tank. I learned that one the hard way many years ago on my oil-in-frame '71 BSA Thunderbolt 650. :-)
