QUESTION: I have a 2006 harley davidson 1200 sportster.  My back light is not coming on.  I've already changed bulbs, checked the battery, rear tail light switch. I don't know what else to do.  Please help me out. Thanks alot!

ANSWER: With a test light, do you have power at the bulb connection? Do you have a tail light? When you step on the brake, do you have power on both wires on the taillight switch?

QUESTION: Yes I have power at the bulb connection, and I do have a taillight.  I've checked the wires on the bike including the taillight switch, but my brake light won't come on when I put the brakes, only the light stays on. By the way , Thanks for responding so quickly.

ANSWER: If you have power to the bulb connection, where the bulb plugs in, then its not the wiring. Make sure the connection is clean and you are using a good bulb and the correct bulb. You can test the bulb by holding the pin on the bulb to a positive side of a battery and using a wire, touch the negitive post and the metal housing of the bulb

QUESTION: Is there a specific bulb I need to use?  What do you mean when you say use a wire touch the negative post & the metal housing of the bulb?

Answer
Look on the old bulb and you will see the bulb number and that is the one you need.
On the testing of the bulb, at the sides of the bulb it is make brass. That brass part is the ground for the bulb. One the bottom of the bulb there should be two pins. One is for running light, the other is for brake light. They are the hot side
