how to put pushrod seals in 1982 fxr shovelhead

Answer
First, remove the clips ont he covers and slide them up and out of the way. Now loosen the locknut and turn the pushrods to shorten them so you can get them out. Once they are out, replace the seals. Remove lifters. What you need to do is bleed them. To do this, on the bottom there is a small hole. Stick a wire in there and pump the lifter and the oil will pump out. Pump until no more oil comes out. Put them back as well as the pushrods and covers. Starting with the front intake, rotate the motor so the pushrod is all the way at the bottom of its stroke. Turn the adjuster to make the pushrod longer, just until its tight and then loosen about 1 turn. Do this for each one. Put the clips back in the covers and start the bike. It might rattle a little until the lifters pump back up and your set
