Motorcycle Repair: cb750 k8, diaphram pumps, throttle linkage

Question
I have a 1978 cb750 with a fuel leak out of the #2 carb. After cleaning, adjustment and reassembly, I suspect the accelerator pump. How does it work and how can I check if it is operating properly?

Answer
Terence, if you take the carbs off and put some fuel in the float bowls, you should see fuel squirt out of that small tube near the inlet of the carb as you open the throttle.  The throttle linkage depresses a plunger rod that has a diaphram on the other end.  The diaphram pumps fuel into the carbs.  It has to be adjusted so the linkage contacts and moves the plunger rod the instant the throttle is moved.
