Motorcycle Repair: Honda magna750, coolant temperature sensor, coolant

Question
my fan does not come on how do i test if its the fan or the temperature module ( sensor ) I cant recall if the fan ran frequently or just when standing still in traffic

Answer
Michael, the fan normally comes on when the bike is not moving or moving slowly with traffic.  If the bike is above 30 mph, there's enough air going through the radiator to keep it cool.  You can connect the two wires on the coolant temperature sensor to turn the fan on once the key is on.  It's pretty common for riders to put a switch in that circuit so they could turn the fan on manually when they thought the engine was getting too hot.
