Motorcycle Repair: Honda cb750, honda cb 750, honda cb750

Question
I have a 79 Honda cb 750 that runs irratically and  will not idle reliably. Coming down of the throttle it usually dies.  I have been through the carbs and have even replaced them with another set.  The timing 1s on and the valve timing is correct.  When I checked compression the readings were 100, 75, 90, and 60.  I took the readings with all spark plugs out and throttles open.  I checked my gauge on a cb450 and it pumped it up to 120.  I put oil in the cylinders and checked again with no difference. I wonder if this low compression is my problem and asking what could be causing it?  Like to have an expert opinion before I tear into it any farther.  This condition came about rather gradually Thanks

Answer
Sorry Kenneth but it sounds like the valves are leaking.  If it were rings, the compression would come right up with the oil.  I'd try adjusting the valves before pulling the engine.  I could be just adjustment but if there's clearance between the valves and cam, it will require a valve job to correct.
