Motorcycle Repair: 97 harly classic, output shaft, netural

QUESTION: removed derby cover and did clutch adj by the book then adjusted freeplay with cable adj.   has a constant drag so you can never get it in nuetral when engine is running.tried to even tighten cable to the point that no free play and was hard to pull clutch in  still no nuetral please help   Bob...............

QUESTION: Mike yes netural is easly done when not running also noticed front motor mount is in bad shape and engine is droped in front  would the motor mount have any thing to do with this?  wondering if it would tighten output shaft causing drag on clutch?  dont know how that is all built i am a mechanic but new to harlys   Bob...............

Your motor mount would not have anything to do with it, but if its bad you should replace it.
Your problem is that on the shifter cam there is a very small space for netural. When trying to get into netural, from first or even second, you have to just barely move it. With the motor running it puts a little tention on the trans. You can probably get it in netural when running if you rock the bike a little. I have had harleys over the years that are a bear to get into netural. About the only thing you can do is remove the shifter cam and check it for wear and usually have to replace it
