Motorcycle Repair: 1989 suzuki lt 500 no spark, suzuki lt 500, electrical systems

i have a 89 lt 500 and it ran ok last summer but it has always been a pain to start cold, once it was warm it would fire right up. i went to start it a few days ago but no luck. it seems the spark is very weak or just not there. i took all wires from coil and cleaned them and checked the grounds. before i spend money on a new coil, what else should i check, and do you think that the coil would be the problem. im not too sure about the electrical systems. i would appreciate any help.

Spark could be difficult to see, and also even if you see the spark, it doesn't mean it is there under compression...  Make sure the plug is wet; if there is no spark there should be plenty of fuel.  If not then you are more likely to have a carb problem, rather than an electrical one.
